A visit to Trinidad & Tobago will have all sorts of excitement and enjoyment attached to it, from sampling the local alcohol through to heading down to the beach to enjoy the sun and sand. There is also the option to head to the Royal Princess Casino, which is part of the Princess Casinos chain of gaming venues.
If you’ve been to the Princess Casino in Belize, for example, or the Tir Park Princess Gaming Hall in Bulgaria then you will already have been to one of the members of the chain. There are even other members of it in Trinidad & Tobago, but here we’re looking specifically at the Royal Princess Members Club.
The Casino
The Royal Princess Members Club is located in the MovieTowne entertainment complex in Invaders Bay, Port of Spain. As with so many other casinos in the Caribbean, the Royal Princess Casino offers a wealth of different slot machines that are likely to offer your favourite game, presuming that it is a modern one. That is on account of the fact that the slot machines in place here are mostly of the modern variety, with games from companies such as GTECH, Bally, IGT and Novomatic loaded up onto them for your enjoyment. Some will have their own jackpots, whilst others will be offering progressive jackpots.
Slot Machines
Some people don’t enjoy table games as much as they like live games, so if that’s a category that you fit into then you’re in luck. There are eight live table games on offer at the Royal Princess Casino across the 1,420 square metres that make up the gaming floor. Sure, they are dwarfed in comparison to the 160+ slot machines that shine brightly and make a racket throughout the casino’s opening times, but they offer an entirely different experience. American roulette will be one of the first things that you’ll notice, thanks in no small part to the fact that the table usually has a horde of people crowded around it, willing the ball to do what they want.
Table Gaming
If that isn’t your cup of tea then you can head to the blackjack table instead; although it would be foolish to think that you’re going to have any more luck taking on the dealer than the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune that roulette is all about. Three-card poker is another option in terms of table games, promising a slightly different experience to the poker that you’ll be used to if you tend to love Texas Hold’em, but you will get to grips with the game easily enough and can always ask the dealer if you’re not too sure how to play the game. Failing that, you can look towards the Rhum32 table instead, if you fancy.
Rhum32 – A Game Unique to Trinidad & Tobago
Rhum32 is a game that you’ll probably want to try at least once, owing to the fact that it is a game that seems to be limited to Trinidad & Tobago in terms of where you can actually play it. It is a game that is similar in nature to rummy crossed with blackjack, with the aim being to have a lower cumulative total in your hand than the dealer. Each player gets four cards dealt, which is the same for the dealer but their last card is face up. Having already placed an ante to play, the player then decides whether to play, placing their bet, or surrender their ante. Everyone still in gets one more card, then the cards are revealed.
It is not an easy game to get your head around at the first time of playing, thanks in no small part to the fact that how much you’ll get paid depends on how many points you have at the end of the cards being dealt. Some casinos would opt for a more popular and well-known game such as craps, but in Trinidad & Tobago they all but invented Rhum32 so it’s hardly a surprise that one of the table games offered at the Royal Princess Casino is this one. If you want to take a break from the tables then you can head to the casino bar or get a bite to eat at the Princess Casino Buffet, which has a variety of food options to everyone’s taste.
Nearby Shopping & Entertainment
Although Princess International as a company does boast numerous hotels around the world, Trinidad & Tobago isn’t one of their locations. That doesn’t mean that you can’t escape the casino and have a look around MovieTowne to get a break from the tables, however. As you might have guessed from the name, MovieTowne is where the local cinema is located, so you can get yourself a seat in a nice air-conditioned location and watch one of the latest releases. It is also a shopping mall, so there are numerous different venues that you can pop into in order to get a sense of what Trinidad & Tobago’s shopping is all about.
Also located around the MovieTowne area is Carousel Park, which allows you to get involved in some fun and games that are mostly aimed at kids. Fiesta Plaza is similar, offering everything from fine dining to fast food via live music and numerous different bars. Most places are themed, so a wander around is akin to heading to Bourbon Street in New Orleans, such is the eclectic mix of what is on offer. The Bandstand is where you’ll want head if you want to catch some live entertainment, thanks to the fact that you’ll be able to see something there on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 8.30pm and 9.30pm.
